Medical Council for the purpose of obtaining hospital appointments in this country or being commissioned in the Army, this would be the best solution since it would avoid the rather cumbersome machinery of making an Order in Council and setting up a degree conferring body for what it may now be hoped will be a compara- tively short period.
Dr. Gordon King said that he would brood upon this problem and would talk to the General Medical Council about it.

Dr. Gordon King came to the Office on December 8th. He said that he had thought about the points referred to in my minute above and had come to the conclusion that it would be best in all the circumstances to proceed with the idea of setting up a statutory body by an Order-in-Council which would empower it to confer medical degrees on behalf of Hong Kong University.
There was discussion as to the title which this body should have and, although somewhat unwieldy, it was concluded that "Emergency Committee for the Conferment of Medical Degrees of the University of Hong Kong" could not be bettered.
